This place is delicious! Favorite by far is the Outlaw! Order from here at least once a week! It always seems busy and the sandwiches are always fresh tasting!

Ordered the Dagwood for my hubby and California Chicken for myself. The CA chicken was a little to spicy for me, so my hubby finished it off and loved it. He liked it better than his Dagwood. Both sandwiches were very fresh and I will for sure be going back to try others. Two things: 1. Call your order in (they take their time to make such awesome sandwiches). 2. Parking stinks, so have someone run in to pick up, or make sure you bring dimes or nickels for the meters.

Amazing food! This place is so under rated. The soups are to die for. The taco salad is my favorite.

  • Peter D.

Not very impressive. Bread wasn't very good (opposite of home made quality) and the meats on the sandwich weren't any different that you'd get at a grocery store pre packed. And all for a price higher than subway

Great sandwich shop. So happy this place is in my neighborhood:)

This place is right down the street from me and has had a standing groupon now deal for probably 4+ months now. I have taken advantage of this a few times and i have to say i am surprised by all of the positive reviews. Maybe I was spoiled by Maize n Blue in Ann Arbor, or maybe LBD is truly meh. The first 3-4 visits I attempted to get a "hot" sandwich...ha. Maybe if hot means partially toasted bread and cold meat in the middle. I tried different types of sandwiches to no avail, always cold in the middle. I dont find them very appealing when you bite through hot (but not really toasted) bread, lukewarm toppings, and cold meat. I also tried a couple of their sides, most being lackluster, but the most amusing was the mac n cheese. For the price and description I was expecting a nice homemade mac with a good crust. What I got was made from a box with a tiny sprinkle of un-toasted panko on top. In addition to their food's shortcomings, I cant really say the staff has ever struck me as very friendly. Not necessarily rude, but also not really seeming like they want to deal with customers. I kept going back thinking I was missing something because of all the positive reviews, but honestly after 6-7 trips (2 of which found them out of corned beef) I dont see a reason to ever eat here again, which is disappointing because of its proximity and tempting menu.

The Mr. T Veggie sandwich is so simple, yet it is SO delicious! This place is small, and gets packed around lunchtime, so I'd recommend phoning your order in. When they say 20-25 minutes on the phone, it will be 25, so plan accordingly. They have a great selection of sandwiches, soups, and salads. Reasonably priced for being an independent deli. The owner is super nice. Once my order was wrong, and he corrected it and gave me a free sandwich on my next visit. They're big on customer satisfaction here; by providing tasty treats and great customer service!

This is a solid place to eat lunch or dinner or whenever the hell you want! It's a little place that peeks off Mack, on the corner of Cadieux. Parking is abysmal but that's the worst part of the experience, as the amount of food offered is outstanding. You walk in and there is a HUGE menu of just sandwiches on one wall, from chicken to beef to turkey to vegetarian. Each sandwich has something a little different from the next, whether it is the bread it is served on (which can be altered which you order) or what comes with it. There are classics like the Chicken BLT, chicken salad, tuna melt, chicken fajita and The Cuban. Or, you can be adventurous and try one of their "special" sandwiches -- like The Outlaw, which is turkey, bacon, avocado, pepper-jack cheese, and tomato baked on a rustic roll and topped with BBQ ranch -- or the Chicado (what I ordered): Chicken breast, avocado, swiss, and tomato baked on a rustic roll and topped with ranch. There are also numerous soups and salads one can order, including a side Caesar, tomato basil soup or a full Cobb Salad. And if you want sides or something besides sandwiches, there is mac 'n cheese, orzo pasta salad, quesadilla and tomato cucumber feta. The tomato soup is pretty good. For two sandwiches and a soup it cost less than $17, so not too bad. Did the sandwich completely fill me up? Not completely, but I had half the soup and The Chicado and was pretty full overall -- and that was for dinner. If you eat a sandwich for lunch it is an absolute perfect size. Whether or not this is better than places like Nautical Deli is pretty subjective. Both offer different kinds of sandwiches and put their own spin on it, but I would eat at both these places over just about every other sandwich shop. Finely crafted food that is pretty quick and fresh, and you can't beat that.

Awesome food, huge menu, nice staff. You can order & pay on their app (very easy to navigate) for pickup or delivery or just go in and sit by the window to enjoy your sandwich. A good staple lunch option for creative sandwhiches. My favorite is the spicy veggie which I then add turkey to.

Bruh. This place is our go-to for a picnic or when hanging out on Lake St. Clair. There menu is vast. Too many great sandwiches to choose from. The outlaw is my favorite. Call ahead and order if you are in a rush.

I have such a love/hate relationship with these guys. They can be less than friendly at times, but their sandwiches are bomb. I got bad service less than a week ago and said I wouldn't be back... Well, now it's Thursday and I need a quick, healthy dinner, so here I am. If you don't mind a side order of 'tude then stop in and try a Mr. T Veggie wrap.

Although delivery definitely takes some time to get to my house, I suddenly forget all about the long wait time when the delicious salads, sandwiches and house specials are in front of me. Everything I've ever ordered has been delicious and worth the wait. But, I could deal without the wait...especially when super hungry!

  • Olivia G.

My first experience and I'm in love! Very rare to find a place that delivers something other than pizza. I had the southern BBQ sandwich and only planned on eating half but couldn't stop. We will be ordering again tomorrow evening and all the time now! Can't wait to order something else!

Good sandwiches but the staff is always rude. I avoid this place because of the way they treat their customers.

Great sandwiches! One of the best lunch spots in the Detroit area. Wish they had a location in the city.

  • Lady D.

I eat here frequently. They used to be amazing but over the past few months the quality of the food has declined. Salads are coming out with wilted lettuce and rotting avocado. And the bread on the sandwiches are burned. I sincerely hope they get it together, this was one of my favorite places, I would tell people to come to Grosse Pointe just for this restaurant.

Lunch Box Deli is a very respectable little sandwich shop. Be aware that there's pretty much no seating inside, so it's more of a carryout place. Some of the reviews point to the corned beef or reuben sandwiches. Skip those and go to one of the delis on the west side of town (Steve's, etc.) if you really want good beef. Instead, try one of their other sandwiches like the Bird (chicken, hummus, feta, spinach, sundried tomato). There's somewhat of a price premium here, but Grosse Pointe is sorely in need of good, independent shops and restaurants, so stomach the extra $1 or just go to Subway and support another massive corporation.

The appollo creed steak and cheese has the perfect blend of textures. This sandwich blows me away every time I have ordered it. It is hot, moist, flavorful, and never soggy! I am extremely perplexed with the ability to have such a juicy sandwich without soggy bread. I would give them 5 stars if they added signature side items and turned down that XM U. crapola music .

  • Ryan M.

love the idea of the sandwich of the month for $5. who needs subway when you can have a unique and lovely experience created by true sandwich artists at lunchbox deli. the turkey chili...can you say HEALTHY and Tasty? I am a healthy man and very strong too.

Holy yummy sandwiches! I love sandwiches and this place has a TON! I have only been here once, but the menu is great and I cannot wait to go back! My boyfriend had the Colombo (Italian sub topped with asiago cheese and baked grinder style with a side of Italian) and I had The Outlaw (turkey, bacon, avocado, pepper-jack cheese, and tomato baked on a rustic roll and topped with BBQ ranch) and both were so good! They also had chocolate chip cookies up by the counter that we got and they were really good as well. They had 3 soups that day and I ordered the chicken lime rice and it was a little weak. The categories of sandwiches include chicken, pork, turkey, tuna, beef, veggie and salami and they have soup, salads and sides as well along with some main entrees. You can also sub tofu on any sandwich free of charge.

Th best sandwich place in Michigan!! Nothing compares. Great food, great service, great sandwich selection! You will not be disappointed.

Great sandwiches. Takes a little bit of time if you don't order ahead. Large portions stacked high with quality ingredients.

  • Amber V.

My husband and I got the corned beef. This is just my opinion, but it tasted like just another lunch meat. It didn't have that unique consistency that corned beef has. It was rubbery and lacked flavor big time. This was my first time eating here so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing...

    (3)
  • Michael J.

This place has really good corned beef. Massive selection of great sandwiches. Their turkey chili is really good too. One time, after I left and was back at work with my food, I sat down to eat the turkey chili and half of it was cold. Not, room temperature, but cold as if it came out of the fridge and they didn't heat it up enough. That was my only bad experience after eating here several times.

HUGE selection of sandwiches, salads, and even a few other entrees. Tons of veggie-friendly options (which I always appreciate...because although I am not vegetarian, sometimes I'm just not in a meaty mood). Everything is fresh. Awesome ingredients. (I am partial to the Chickado...chicken, advocado, veggies, and some kind of delicious mayo-but-not-quite sauce). And choices of a handful of types of tasty breads. They have a "Grab n' go" fridge with pre-made sandwiches that are a bit cheaper...great if you are in a hurry and there on the busy lunch hour. It's a small joint, and with all the sandwiches made to order, it can definitely get backed up. But to me, I'd much rather spend the extra 10 minutes and $2 and get a fresh sandwich made just for me than do the grab n' go. They offer discounts to Grosse Pointe South HS students, I believe....and they are also totally cool with giving a discount to all the teachers and employees of Grosse Pointe Music Academy next door (that would be me). Grab a carry out menu and call in your order ahead...this will save you some of the wait which, to me, seems to be the only downfall of this place.

Tried this place for the first time yesterday, and I would definitely go there again. They have a very extensive and interesting menu. I had the Outlaw based on reviews I had read here. It was okay but I have to say I would have liked less turkey and more of everything else. When I have a sandwich with bacon on there I expect a pretty thick layer. There were only a couple of pieces on there and it wasn't the thick cut style bacon. On a whim I added coconut red lentil soup which was a special of the day while they were packing up my sandwiches, and that was delicious! My husband got a Georgia Reuben minus lettuce (seems strange to make a sandwich with both cole slaw and lettuce.) He was very happy with his sandwich. I noticed some of the reviews mentioned that the service wasn't great but the guys working when I went in were very nice. With such a huge menu I will have to try it a few more times and hope it's good enough to update my review and add a star or two.

  • Lawanda P.

Man the sandwich look like a fist!!! I could only eat half of the sandwich for lunch and the edit was not long. Price justify every bite I took. Well worth every penny!!!

  • Suze A.

I have been coming here for years. I feel like Joey, from Friends, because I love sandwiches! There is a wall covered in sandwich options, and you really can get whatever you want. My favorite sandwich from years ago isn't made any more, but I've found some awesome replacements. I work in Detroit and its really worth the drive to eat here. There's a seating area inside, or you can take your food to go (they're really fast). The seating inside is on the small side, so you have to be lucky to get a table. Also, the turkey chili is delicious and I'm not a soup fan!

This mainly takeout place is not high on atmosphere (outside of the giant menu that creatively adorns the walls in every direction). While a bit slow it is a rare occasion that would have you leave with the feeling that you were not properly attended to while ordering, waiting or receiving your food. As for the food, fresh and solid across the board. I particularly.enjoy getting their heated/pressed sandwhiches. Very good bread selection for their wide range of sammies.

Excellent sandwiches! I love the variety of sandwiches and the hand written menu board. Cool, charming place with great food, at reasonable prices. I just wish they had a larger dining room, I prefer to eat in.

I'm willing to give this place another try... the sandwiches were really good, hence my intended return, but there just shouldn't be that many complications in ordering two sandwiches. I'm hoping it was a fluke. Parking here is a little hard to come by, but once inside all the menu is printed all over the walls really clearly. I chose the OUTLAW and my god daughter selected the Buffalo Chicken Po Boy that was advertised on special on a big poster on the wall as the "Sandwich of the month". We took a seat in the sitting area... and waited... and waited... in fact, we waited so long that I began to do the math in my head and realized I was overcharged. I asked the cashier about this and was told that there were "two different types of sandwiches..." and that I guess I was supposed to specify I wanted that one that was on special. Um, okay? (My god daughter was literally staring at the posted and pointed at it when she told me what she wanted). So, once I SPECIFIED I wanted the one that was $3 cheaper, they gave me the difference of my money back. Not a huge deal, but I don't understand having two sandwiches with the same name - but if you must and you KNOW one is the sandwich on special for the month, you'd think you would ask. Secondly, the wait. Jeeze Louise. I like my sandwiches fresh but I was waiting so long that the people who came in 10 minutes after me were complaining. I checked my time and I actually had waited over 35 minutes for two sandwiches. It was not a lunch rush time either (probably about 3 or 4 pm). That's kind of over the top. I have to admit that they were some damn good sandwiches and the buffalo chicken po boy for $5 was a steal (sorry, that ended in July... but I'm sure there is a different special this month) but I will be calling my order in ahead of time next time and making sure that the sandwich I ordered matches the price listed when paying.

Lunchbox Deli offers something for everyone. Upon entering the small eatery, you are greeted with two tables and chairs and a bar that extends along the left wall with stools for additional seating. Above the bar is a huge blackboard that lists the many sandwich varieties the deli offers. The kitchen area is the largest section of the small eatery and is clearly visible from any location in the dining room. This is where each sandwich is made to order in complete view of the customers and the choreographed assemblage of employees turn sandwich making into a true art form. Although each part of the small sandwich shop contributes to its unique quaintness, it is the delicious sandwiches that put this place on the map. The menu is sectioned by type of meat (chicken, pork, turkey, tuna, beef and salami) and also includes a huge selection of veggie sandwiches, salads, sides, entrees and even a kids menu. One bite and you are sure to be hooked whether you are looking for something hot, cold, spicy or lean and anything in between, Lunchbox Deli can make your ideal sandwich a reality. The freshest ingredients and a huge variety of breads is what makes this all possible and keeps the locals coming back for more. So the next time you are looking for a quick lunch and an amazing sandwich, skip the fast food and make a beeline for Lunchbox Deli.

Huge selection, including numerous vegetarian options. Well priced and tasty. I've never had a wait time longer than 20 minutes.

Meh, I've had a better French Dip at New York Deli and The Ugly Duckling. I'll try it again, but I'll stay away from hot subs. The menu said it came on a baguette, but mine came on lavash. And I swear the au jus was actually beef broth from ramen noodles. Also, it seemed like it took forever. And I ordered a Coca Cola (my one cheat can for the week) and all they had in the cooler was Diet Coke and Sprite. Nice job keeping the cooler stocked. On the plus side, the kid who took my order was really pleasant and hospitable. Which is shocking for places like this that employee mostly high school and fresh out of high school kids. Usually, they just act like they're completely disinterested and robotic.

I can't say I've ever had a bad experience here! Orders are always accurate, food is always well-prepared and tasty and the service is always quick and friendly. Our office is a big fan of getting carry-out from this place because there is something for everyone- Vegetarians and Carnivores alike! Stuff We Love: -Mr T Veggie -Corned Beef Reuben -Spicy Special -Vegelante -Turkey Club They also have a nice selection of cookies (when you get them fresh and warm, they are heavenly!) and chips next to the register.

I LUVVV LBD! Especially because they have a large veggie sandwich section and usually also have delicious vegan soups. We order at work and they deliver! Only thing is if you get it delivered order EARLY because they take up to 45 mins. BUT it tastes like homemade and the portions are large so you can share or save half. Favorite sandwich: the Vegelante (get it toasted, and I like to skip the cheese)

This place is owned by the same people that own Burrito Mundo, which is my current favorite place to get a worldy burrito. BOOMâ„¢! I speak spanish, yo! Sure, I walk into this place regularly with a vicious favorable bias. I don't care, sue me. My taste buds are ready to rocked with fresh, locally-gathered ingredients. And you know what, Jeeves? I've yet to be let down! The only drawback is the location and space. It's on a treacherous strip of Mack that you can only comfortably drive into if you're going... northeast bound? Yeah. BOOMâ„¢! Topography for that jazz! Then you have to park at a weird meter that was installed in 1934. I mean, seriously folks, what's the point? I've had wraps. I've had salads. I've had cookies (which is the reason they don't get 5-stars - step that up, my damies). I've had formal sandwiches. In the mortal and modest words of Hammer, "it's all good" (except the cookies could be tastier or could have more variety - I am not big on chocolate chip). Anyway, a local food spot that supports local farmers and make Grade A+ delectables [most of the time]. Get with this. Oh yeah, did we mention that they double as a catering operation. Say wha-aaaaat?!

Another vote for the vegetarian friendly menu! I'm not a vegetarian, but I always seem to get their veggie sandwiches. I've had the portabella (portabella, roasted red pepper, onion, and swiss on pumpernickel), voodoo melt (peppers, onions, mushrooms, black olives, swiss, and pesto on olive bread), and the grilled veggie (just what it sounds like, with asiago on foccacia) more often than anything else. Their bread is great, and all their veggie ingredients are fresh. On the meat side, I feel like the "Tony Danza Extravaganza" is the quintessential deli sandwich - ham, salami, roast beef, red onion, provolone, and tomato on a hoagie. Somehow they put all that together and it doesn't feel like just a huge pile of meat. It does take a few minutes to put your sandwich together, especially if you get a hot one (b/c it has to cook, obviously). I usually call ahead and my sandwich is ready to go when I get there. I call them pretty much whenever I'm going to be out in the Pointes, regardless of if it's actually meal time - I'll just take it home to eat later if it's not! The one time I ate in was fine, the radio was playing, and they have plenty of local rags - metro times, real detroit weekly, etc for perusal during your meal if you don't have a companion. Great local place to get a sandwich, highly recommended. They're getting 4 instead of 5 only because they're not open on Sunday and I wish they were!

A huge collection of sandwiches, a few salads, a couple of soups, a few entrees. The entrees are pretty good, the salads are as they are listed on the menu, and most of the sandwiches are great. There are a few duds here and there (sundried tomatoes are weird to me), and they recently added a few new ones which weren't as great as their classics. If the menu description looks good, then it will taste good. Personal favs are the Giovese, the Godfather, the Vegemite, the Apollo Creed, and the Estrada Enchiladas

  • John G.

I was in the mood for a corned beef sandwich on rye with mustard and Swiss cheese. You know, a classic deli sandwich. Well the "Pointes" and deli don't go together often. But I've found a gem of a place that changed my thinking when it comes to the "deli" and "Grosse Pointes" oxymoron. The Lunchbox Deli is a funky Royal Oak kinda joint that seems out of place in this conservative local. Great decor, small dining area, hand written menu board, and eclectic staff. Thought I made a wrong turn at first. But on to the the food. Tons of exciting sandwiches. Of all types. Including vegetarian! Nothing boring. All affordable. I don't have a fav yet. But the taco salad is pretty good. They also offer tasty salads and soups. Again, exciting and affordable. Great prices and fantastic daily specials. Menu is online at lunchboxdeli.com

I'm actually the friend out of Lorna D's Review. I have given up on this place. I was tired of the Misc. Items showing up in my food. I was also the one who had chomped down on a piece of metal gear...I'm guessing off of a grinder or something? This was 4 or 5 years ago, but since then Ive been repeatedly disappointed. So I'm done...no more surprises for me!

Love this place. Been eating here on and off since high school and I'm still coming back. My favorite is The Outlaw but I just tried the ham and cheddar pretzel melt and it was to die for. When I call to order they are always friendly on the phone too. They have great soup too and are pretty reasonable for catering prices. Bottom line, great food, cheap, and super friendly employees, plus it's locally owned.

I am a big fan of this place. I live in Chicago so when i come home, this is one of my mandatory spots. They have a mind blowing sandwich that has spinach dip on it...i cant remember the name of it, but its phenom. The selections are almost overwhelming there are so many, take your time when choosing!

Love salami, I love cured meats in general. One day, I'd like to buy a pork leg and cure it myself. Now i just need to find a place that will sell me buckets of sea salt so I can do it myself. I've only been here once and it didn't rock my socks off, but it was close to it. I've had the italian melt, and salami stacker. Like I said, I love salami so I ordered two dishes. Both were delicious, so much so that I needed an afternoon nap. Lots of bang for your buck here. Next up is the french dip. I'll get back to you on that one.

I work at a nearby hospital and we ordered 7 sandwiches from them today. Not only did they give us a total that wasn't right, but they kept putting the person who ordered on hold when she called to have them itemize everything. I myself ordered a plain grilled chicken breast sandwich with no cheese (to make it healthier) and no tomato (just because I don't like it). It is gross. I feel like gross is an understatement here. I was trying to be healthy with this, but they buttered the heck out of my sourdough bread. The chicken is incredibly dry and the lettuce was apparently grilled with the chicken and is so disgusting looking. It's wilted and brown and totally unappetizing. I am calling them and then throwing it away. I've made plenty of grilled chicken sandwiches. They're not hard. I'm not sure what they did to this, but it is so over cooked and gross that I would never order from there again.
